"Chinese steel companies have invested high costs for this. It is conservatively estimated that if my country's steel industry fully realizes ultra-low emissions, it will need to invest about 260 billion yuan, which will increase operating costs by more than 50 billion yuan each year." According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, my country's crude steel output in 2020 will be 1.065 billion tons. In recent years, China's steel industry has resolutely eliminated outdated production capacity, and the capacity utilization rate has been maintained at a relatively high level. By vigorously promoting industrial structure adjustment, energy structure optimization, ultra-low emission transformation and low-carbon transformation, green development has achieved remarkable results. According to statistics from China Iron and Steel Association, from 2015 to 2020, the key statistical iron and steel enterprises have reduced their comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel by 58%, and cut smoke and dust emissions per ton of steel by 48%.

Under the requirements of the carbon neutral target, my country's steel industry will face the “relative constraint” of carbon emission intensity to the “absolute constraint” of total carbon emission. The China Iron and Steel Association proposes that the entire industry strive to achieve carbon peaks in advance during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. China Baowu and HBIS are the first to put forward the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. A large number of steel companies such as Baowu, Shougang, HBIS, Jianlong, Jiuquan Steel, Rizhao, etc. are actively exploring the establishment of hydrogen metallurgical demonstration projects and have made breakthroughs. .

On April 22 this year, the "Steel Industry Low-Carbon Work Promotion Committee" was established to condense the power of the entire industry to jointly promote the process of green and low-carbon steel development.
