Installing a carriage bolt involves several steps:

Drilling Holes: Begin by drilling a hole through the materials you intend to fasten together. Ensure that the hole's diameter is slightly larger than the diameter of the carriage bolt, allowing it to fit through without difficulty.

Inserting the Carriage Bolt: Place the carriage bolt through the hole you've drilled, ensuring that the square neck, located just beneath the head, fits into a square hole or slot in the material. This square neck is essential to prevent the bolt from turning while you're tightening the nut.

Adding Washers and Nuts: On the side opposite to the head of the bolt, position a washer over the threaded end. Then, screw the nut onto the bolt and start tightening it by hand.

Securing the Bolt: To firmly secure the bolt, use a wrench or a socket tool to tighten the nut further. As you're tightening, ensure that the square neck of the bolt remains snugly fitted in the square hole to prevent any rotation.

Trimming (if required): If the bolt protrudes significantly beyond the nut and washer, you may trim the excess length using a saw or a suitable cutting tool. This step ensures a cleaner, finished appearance.
